Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has thrown down the gauntlet to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, daring him to call for fresh elections with the single agenda of the Musi Riverfront beautification project. “Hain Dum Rahul Gandhi?” he asked.

His challenge came after a netizen, Olirtudeg, posted on X, suggesting that if the Congress government truly believed in the project’s importance, it should dissolve the government and seek a fresh mandate from the people. The netizen argued that the Congress was elected based on promises of freebie schemes, and should focus on fulfilling those commitments rather than prioritizing the riverfront project.

In a series of posts on X, Rama Rao lambasted the Congress government under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for its handling of the Musi Riverfront project, which has led to mass displacement of families.

“The government’s thirst for demolition is tearing families apart,” he wrote.

Pointing out the emotional toll of forced evictions, he condemned the government’s approach to compensation, revealing that officials offered a meager Rs 25,000 along with a double-bedroom house in exchange for vacating homes that families had invested heavily in. He pointedly asked if Revanth Reddy would accept such treatment if it were his own family. “You have once again proved that your Indiramma Rajyam is here to take lives,” he said.

The BRS working president slammed Revanth Reddy for driving families into despair, noting that several individuals had taken their lives out of fear of losing their homes, while others breathed last due to the sheer fear and subsequent mental agony caused. He criticised the Congress government’s disregard for the lives and livelihoods of the poor, calling the demolitions as assassination of the poor families’ lives. He accused the government of sacrificing lives for political and financial gain, vowing that people would remember these actions and hold the Congress accountable.

Rama Rao stated that the Musi beautification project is costing a whopping Rs 27,000 crore per km against Namami Gange project’s Rs 17 crore per km. “This is no Beautification project but a Lootification scheme. The scam is scripted and directed by Congress bigwigs to serve as their party’s Reserve Bank, (sic)” he added.
