Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao demanded action against the Gajwel Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) after a video purportedly showing the official asking a distressed farmer whether he had consumed pesticide went viral on social media.
The incident has triggered criticism of the Congress government over its treatment of the farming community.
According to the video, a farmer approached the Gajwel MRO seeking help to save his agricultural land. The official allegedly asked him mockingly, “Haven’t you drunk pesticide yet? Are you still alive?”
When the farmer questioned whether the official was laughing at his suffering, the MRO reportedly replied in the affirmative.
Reacting to the incident, Rama Rao strongly criticised the official and demanded action from the State government.
“Is this how we treat the very farmers who feed us?” he asked in a post on X.
“You have to be mentally sick to treat another fellow human the way this officer did. Shameful and absolutely unacceptable. I demand that the Chief Secretary take action against this MRO,” Rama Rao said.
