Hyderabad: With Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy failing to deliver on key electoral promises even after 19 months in power, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said public discontent was rising and stated that the people of Telangana were no longer willing to tolerate the Congress government’s hollow promises and daily insults.

Welcoming several Congress councillors and scores of activists from Medak district who joined the BRS at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, he described it as a clear signal of growing dissent against Revanth Reddy and his government. He said, “Time has come to teach a lesson to Revanth Reddy in upcoming local body polls, for deceiving every section of society with his false promises and rhetoric.”

The BRS working president criticised Revanth Reddy for not fulfilling electoral promises and stated that the Chief Minister had betrayed farmers by limiting the crop loan waiver. He pointed out that while Revanth Reddy had promised to spend Rs 50,000 crore, he delivered only Rs 12,000 crore under the scheme, leaving many farmers in the lurch. Further, he recalled that the Chief Minister had promised Rs 15,000 per acre for two crops under Rythu Bandhu, but farmers received just Rs 12,000 per acre, that too only for a couple of seasons.

“All your promises are now proven to be lies. People are hurling choicest of abuses against Revanth Reddy on social media, that no Chief Minister in the history of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh or Telangana has received. Any leader with self-respect would have stepped down. But he is Revanth Reddy,” he said, ridiculing the Chief Minister’s claim to win 100 seats in the next Assembly elections.

Rama Rao warned the Chief Minister against using abusive language against BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He reminded that without the BRS chief, the State of Telangana would not have been formed and Revanth Reddy would not have become its Chief Minister.

He also condemned the custodial torture of BRS activist Narsing for posting content critical of the government and criticised the police high-handedness against party activists. “Is this Indiramma Rajyam that they promised? Is freedom of speech and criticism now a crime?” he asked. He said the previous BRS government had never targeted the opposition but had focused on governance to develop Telangana on all fronts.

Harish Rao also targeted the Chief Minister, stating that Revanth Reddy’s government was busy diverting water to Andhra and funds to Delhi Congress leaders while neglecting Telangana’s needs. He recalled that Chandrashekhar Rao had taken up development works in the erstwhile Medak district, from establishing degree colleges and constructing four-lane roads to modernising canals and ensuring uninterrupted Rythu Bandhu payments, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Under the Congress rule, even the tractors given by Chandrashekhar Rao have stopped running due to lack of diesel. The administration is paralysed. Revanth Reddy promised 420 guarantees and gave nothing,” he remarked. He also ridiculed the Chief Minister’s proposal to deduct 10 per cent salary of employees who neglected their parents and questioned what penalty should be imposed on the Revanth Reddy government for neglecting Telangana and its people.

On the issue of irrigation, Harish Rao said 65 TMC of floodwater was released to Andhra Pradesh while Telangana’s pumping stations remained switched off. “The government is spreading lies instead of turning on the motors and saving crops cultivated by our farmers,” he said.

Both leaders vowed to bring back Chandrashekhar Rao as Chief Minister and hoist the pink flag again across the erstwhile Medak district. They urged party leaders to remain united and ensure victory in the upcoming local body elections.
