Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday slammed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his remarks about spilling the blood of BRS leaders to cultivate Telangana’s agricultural lands. He accused the ruling Congress of having a long history of violence against Telangana and vowed to fight for farmers’ water rights.
“We asked for water, but you want to spill our blood. You tormented Telangana for 60 years. How much more does Congress crave?” he asked.
In a strongly worded statement, Rama Rao alleged that the Congress was responsible for the deaths of seven Telangana youths in 1952, 369 people in 1969 and about 1,000 people during the final phase of the statehood movement. “The hands of Congress are stained with the blood of Telangana’s children,” he said.
He said the BRS was prepared to make any sacrifice for the farmers of Telangana, but not in response to political threats. He demanded that the government focus on providing water instead of engaging in political rhetoric. “If the Congress wants our blood in exchange for water, we will give it. Focus on quenching the thirst of withering fields, not your bloodlust,” he said, accusing the government of neglecting Telangana’s irrigation needs while targeting the Opposition.
