Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao blamed the Congress government for the deaths of farmers at procurement centres, alleging gross negligence in crop procurement. He extended condolences to the bereaved families of four farmers. He demanded Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia to the victims’ families, and immediate medical support for the injured.
In two separate incidents in Mancherial district, four farmers died and several were injured after walls collapsed amid heavy rain and winds.
In a statement, Rama Rao said harvested crops have been lying unprocured for weeks, forcing farmers to wait in unsafe conditions at procurement centres.
Stating that seven farmers died in the past three days in similar circumstances, he held the government responsible for the deaths due to its negligence. He demanded that the State government expedite crop procurement lying at threshing floors and market yards and not to put farmers’ lives in danger.
