Hyderabad: In a symbolic show of solidarity, BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday honoured Mudaam Sayilu, a Dalit youth leader and former Mandal Praja Parishad president, who was allegedly insulted by the police during Dr BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations in April.
At the Dalit Atmagourava Garjana meeting held at Dr BR Ambedkar Junction, Rama Rao felicitated Sayilu in the presence of scores of BRS leaders and activists. He said Sayilu was being honoured at the very spot where he was publicly insulted and later targeted with false cases.
Describing the incident as a grave injustice and an unprecedented insult to any Dalit leader, Rama Rao vowed to politically dethrone the Congress government for what he termed its anti-Dalit actions. He said the party’s stand was part of BRS’s larger fight for social dignity and equality.
Earlier in the day, Rama Rao visited Sayilu’s residence at Nagireddypet, where they shared a meal. Several BRS leaders, including Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Deshapathi Srinivas and RS Praveen Kumar, joined them.
