Hyderabad: HyCan 2025, a two-day pet show bringing together 500 dogs, 100 cats, was organised at Om Convention in Narsingi here on Sunday.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao, who launched the event, visited the show along with his pet, Cherry, a Shih Tzu, a toy dog breed originating from Tibet.

Speaking to the media, Rama Rao said, “I am a pet lover. I love dogs. Right from my childhood, I have had pets with me. My son has seven different breeds of dogs. Dogs are like your own kids. Playing with my Cherry, a Shih Tzu, the toy dog, is my stress buster. However busy I may be, I make it a point to spend some time with my Cherry”.

Though he was busy in the midst of Jubilee Hills assembly constituency bypoll, Rama Rao made it a point not only to visit but spend a little over an hour, going around the HyCan 25 show organised by Hyd Canine Club. He interacted with people, dog/pet owners, enquired more details about the breeds, and patiently cooperated with several people requesting selfies.

Hyderabad Canine Club Rohit said Rama Rao is a pet lover. “He has always supported the pet industry. He is the man behind India’s first dog park, coming up in Hyderabad,” he said.

The park features dogs and cats, an “Aqua Zone” with aquatic displays, and opportunities for pet businesses. It has the largest display of 80 to 100 varieties of fish, said Philip Butt, honorary secretary of Hyderabad Canine Club.
