Dubai: Manda Mahesh, a 35-year-old Telangana NRI, who was bedridden, flew back home on Thursday with the help of BRS working president KT Rama Rao.

Mahesh, who was bedridden after a road mishap in Saudi Arabia, was desperate to return home and his family approached Rama Rao during his visit to their village in Mandepalli in Rajanna Sircilla district earlier this month. Rama Rao, who promised full support to the family, had contacted Indian officials and his acquaintances in Saudi Arabia, who swung into action and helped Mahesh.

Mahesh, who had migrated to the Gulf to support his wife and two young children, was travelling in a company-provided bus to his workplace when an accident occurred near Jubail. The accident claimed nine lives, with Mahesh and another individual surviving but sustaining serious injuries to his spine and both legs. He was undergoing treatment at the Jubail General Government Hospital.

As his condition deteriorated, his family reached out for help and Rama Rao responded, saying: “You are not alone. I will stand by you in this crisis.”

With trembling hands and a choked voice, prior to boarding from Dammam, Mahesh expressed his deep gratitude to Rama Rao for standing with him during the most difficult of times of his life. The repatriation of Mahesh was a herculean effort as he was undergoing treatment and unable to even sit properly. In between, Rama Rao kept track of his health condition and the repatriation process as well. He ensured full support to Mahesh and his wife Lakshmi, and children Nitya Sri and Harshavardhan, until he reached Hyderabad airport and subsequently a leading private hospital in Hyderabad upon arrival on Thursday.

Touched by the plight of the family, the Telugu NRI community in Saudi Arabia also volunteered its support to the family.
