KTR passport not seized in Formula-E case, says BRS legal cell advocate

BRS legal cell advocate Jakkula Laxman denied reports that KT Rama Rao’s passport had been seized in the Formula-E race case. He said the ACB had only sought passport protection and warned that reports before a court order could amount to contempt.

Hyderabad: BRS legal cell advocate Jakkula Laxman rubbished reports that BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s passport had been seized in connection with the Formula-E race case. He warned that media reports and social media posts claiming that Rama Rao’s passport had been seized or protected before any court order could amount to contempt of court.

Speaking to the media, Laxman clarified that the ACB had only filed a memo seeking passport protection and that neither had the court issued any order nor had Rama Rao’s counsel received a notice. “Once the notice is served, the defence would file a counter and present its arguments,” he said.

He said the court could subsequently direct Rama Rao to produce his passport or dismiss the ACB’s petition altogether. He said the reasons cited by the ACB for seeking passport protection would be examined and challenged in court.
