Hyderabad: The IT sector in Hyderabad being associated with only the western corridor is changing as the State government is pushing the growth of IT in all parts of the city.

IT and Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister K T Rama Rao on Sunday informed that the government will be developing the eastern corridor of the city on a par with its western counterpart under the Growth in Dispersion (GRID) policy. “The government will extend support to private companies who entered into an agreement with the State government to set up IT parks in the eastern corridor of the city. Around five companies have already signed an agreement,” the Minister said while speaking at the Bhoomi Puja of Genext Square, which is a 2 million sq ft commercial space being developed by Genpact and Ramky Estates in Habsiguda and Uppal.

The Minister also informed that after the formation of Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has ensured the development of the IT sector in the city and the State. Rama Rao said, “The Chief Minister is promoting IT sector aggressively and making sure it is not restricted only to Hyderabad or to a particular area in the city. As part of the exercise, the GRID policy was formulated.” He pointed out that the government was taking all required efforts to expand the IT sector to other parts of the city instead of restricting its growth only to the western parts. The IT Minister congratulated Genpact and said that around two million sqft of space being constructed in the eastern part of Hyderabad with 50 per cent of it being the expansion of office space is an achievement in itself.

He mentioned that once the project is completed, the eastern corridor of Hyderabad especially the Uppal area will be home to over 1 lakh IT employees. The Minister thanked Genpact for its expansion plans in Warangal in addition to Uppal. Speaking about the initiatives taken by the State to develop infrastructure and improve the standard of living in the eastern corridor, the Minister said that a Shilparamam was built, a skyway from Uppal to Narapally and a skywalk in Uppal are under construction and metro connectivity was also completed. Vidya Srinivasan, global infrastructure and logistic leader, Genpact said that the focus of the State government to push growth in Hyderabad’s eastern IT corridor will be a catalyst to further India’s position as a global technology and digital hub. Nanda Kishore, managing director of Ramky Estates said that Hyderabad is a city with no geographical constraints and has the scope to develop across all corners.

Labour Minister Malla Reddy, Uppal MLA, Bethi Subhas Reddy, IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat, former Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and others participated in the Bhoomi Puja.
