Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao, who expressed strong disapproval of the State government’s decision to give the Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift project to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) and Raghava Constructions, said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was engaging in large-scale corruption through the project.

In a statement here on Saturday, Rama Rao said the project was divided like a cake between MEIL and Raghava Constructions, which is owned by Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. He criticized the decision to bypass major companies like L&T and NCC in favor of these firms, suggesting it was a blatant act of crony capitalism and misuse of power. Questioning the rationale behind disqualifying reputed companies like L&T and NCC on technical grounds, he said the government was conspiring to ensure the contracts went to MEIL and Raghava.

Rama Rao pointed out that the public would notice such blatant favouritism and corruption, also highlighting the recent incident involving MEIL, which caused a loss of Rs.80 crore to the government due to an accident at the Sunkishala project. Despite this, the company was awarded the project, raising questions about the government’s motives. He demanded an explanation for why MEIL, which should have been blacklisted, was instead given the project.

He further criticized the Congress government for using Telangana as an ATM to fill their coffers, neglecting the promises made to the people. Rama Rao emphasized that the people of Telangana would hold the government accountable for this corruption.

Vowing to continue fighting against the corrupt practices of the Congress government to ensure that the people of Telangana were not exploited for personal gain, he questioned how funds were being allocated for such expensive projects while there were no funds for implementing the six guarantees, 420 promises and providing farmer support. He criticized the Congress government for looting public funds while the people of Telangana suffered under their mismanagement.

“While HMWSSB has recommended blacklisting of MEIL after their disastrous gaffe at Sunkishala, Revanth Reddy shamelessly rewards them with another ‘dream’ project! At what cost? A total of Rs 4350 crore of public money handed over to fatten the pockets of a select few while Telangana suffers. We will continue to question this corrupt Govt. Congress is obsessed with filling the coffers of their cronies & to use Telangana as their ATM,” he said.
