Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday raised concern over a major safety lapse at the Santosh Nagar-Chanchalguda steel bridge construction site and demanded strict action against officials and the executing agency.
Reacting to media reports, Rama Rao said heavy iron girders were being lifted by cranes even as traffic continued to pass beneath the construction zone without proper regulation. He questioned such callousness with human lives, pointing out that workers were seen operating without basic protective gear such as harnesses and helmets. “What could happen if the girders slip and fall?” he asked.
Locals have alleged that standard safety protocols were being ignored, with workers balancing on iron girders, while commuters moved along the road below. Residents have demanded immediate intervention, before any tragedy occurred.
The BRS working president said the engineering team of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) must be held accountable for endangering the lives of workers and the public. He also called for the blacklisting of the construction agency involved in the project.
