Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday said the Congress government was allowing illegal sand mining at the Annaram Barrage, terming it a criminal conspiracy to weaken the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Taking to X, Rama Rao said heavy excavators were being used for sand extraction beneath the barrage in violation of rules that prohibit mining near such structures. “This is a major crime,” he said, demanding immediate criminal action against the sand mafia, which he alleged was operating with political backing.

He questioned whether, after the alleged conspiracies against the Medigadda Barrage, efforts were now underway to damage Annaram as well. He called for a thorough investigation into what he described as attempts by the Congress government to endanger the barrage and then blame the BRS.

Rama Rao held the Revanth Reddy government fully responsible for any damage to the Kaleshwaram project barrages and accused Congress leaders of looting Telangana’s resources in broad daylight. He warned that farmers would not forgive any move to harm the State’s lifeline irrigation project.
