KTR seeks Rs 25 lakh ex gratia for families of infants killed in RIMS fire

BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed shock over the deaths of three infants in a fire at the SNCU of the RIMS in Adilabad, demanded Rs 25 lakh ex gratia for the affected families, sought quality treatment for injured children, and blamed the State government for alleged negligence in maintaining public healthcare facilities.

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday expressed shock over the death of three infants in a short-circuit fire at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the RIMS in Adilabad. He sought best medical care and treatment for 23 other children injured in the incident. He also demanded an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh for each family that lost an infant in the incident.

He prayed for the well-being of all the affected newborns.

In a statement, Rama Rao stated that the accident exposed the Congress government’s failure to maintain government hospitals and ensure adequate supervision of critical wards. He said BRS leaders had repeatedly alerted the government about the conditions at the RIMS, but no corrective action was taken.

He held Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy responsible for the incident and criticised the government for neglecting the public healthcare sector. He urged the government to have separate children’s wards and Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in RIMS-Adilabad and other government hospitals inspected by experts and take preventive measures.
