Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday served a legal notice to TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud, strongly condemning “baseless and derogatory” allegations against him in the controversial phone-tapping case. Terming the accusations a political stunt, he demanded an unconditional apology and warned of legal consequences if such defamatory remarks continued.
In a statement, Rama Rao said failing to fulfil its electoral promises, the ruling Congress was reviving the phone-tapping controversy to divert public attention ahead of local body elections. “When you cannot govern, you resort to gossip,” he remarked, slamming the Congress for turning the fabricated case into a smear campaign.
The former Minister was outraged over the remarks made without evidence, branding them shameful and undemocratic. “We are law-abiding citizens. I cooperated with the investigation, despite the case being politically motivated. But making such unfounded accusations without a shred of evidence is highly condemnable,” he said. He also cautioned that the BRS cadre would not remain silent if such provocations continued.
Criticising the Congress leadership, Rama Rao said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud were in a race to mislead the public. He said their lack of administrative capability had led them to rely on attention diversion tactics. “This is nothing but a distraction tactic to mask administrative failure and the collapse of the so-called six guarantees and 420 poll promises,” he said.
He warned that Congress leaders indulging in character assassination would be dragged to the court and urged them to focus on real governance instead of propaganda for media attention.
