Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed shock over the death of 767 farmers in Maharashtra in just three months of the BJP rule, calling it a national shame. Terming it a tragedy that should shake the core of any sane Indian, he said the staggering figure of one suicide every three hours indicates the complete collapse of agricultural support systems under BJP rule.
Taking aim at the Modi government’s rhetoric, Rama Rao said the “double engine bhashan” did not deliver results. Instead, India needs to replicate Telangana’s farmer-centric model by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao at the national level, he said, recalling how schemes like Rythu Bandhu for direct monetary support, Rythu Bima for life insurance and the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project transformed agriculture in Telangana.
“What we need in India today is not advanced Artificial Intelligence but an improved understanding of the agricultural system,” he said, demanding a dedicated procurement network that guarantees fair prices and shields farmers from distress.
