KTR slams Revanth Reddy for farmer suicides in Telangana

BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao blamed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for three farmer suicides in Telangana this week, alleging that the Congress government has reversed the progress made under K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule, which had sharply reduced agrarian distress and suicides.

Hyderabad: Expressing deep grief over the suicides of three farmers in the State this week, BRS working president KT Rama Rao criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for creating the crisis that led to the deaths.

The deceased were Mogili Lakshman (45) of Achannapeta, Vemulawada mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district; Guguloth Bhaskar (40) of Peekla Thanda, Narayanapuram, Kesamudram mandal in Mahabubabad district; and Nalike Anil (29) of Shayampet mandal headquarters in Hanamkonda district.

In a statement, Rama Rao said one death was triggered by the irrigation crisis, another by crippling debt and lack of investment support, and the third by denial of compensation after heavy rains caused crop damage.

Referring to the recent NCRB report, Rama Rao reminded that farmer suicides had come down by about 96 percent during former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao‘s decade-long rule. However, the return of the Congress government had reversed hard-won gains and was ringing death bells across agrarian families.

“The increased farmer suicides are not only unfortunate, but also the signal of a crisis looming large over the farmers. I urge farmers not to give up,” he said, urging citizens to rally under Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership to revive agriculture in the State.
