KTR targets Revanth Reddy over real estate slump and rising debt
BRS working president KT Rama Rao accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its promises, pushing Telangana into debt and hurting the real estate sector. He also called on party workers to strengthen the organisation and prepare for future electoral battles.
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao targeted the Congress government over its failure to implement its election promises and, instead, accused it of betraying every section of society through misleading statements and actions. He blamed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for pushing Telangana into mounting debt and triggering a severe downturn in the real estate sector.
Addressing a meeting of party leaders and activists in Chevella on Thursday, Rama Rao said the Congress government had repeatedly failed to fulfil commitments made to farmers, including the disbursement of Rythu Bandhu assistance. He accused the government of delaying welfare measures while attempting to mislead various sections of society.
Pointing to the condition of the real estate sector, the BRS working president said land prices that had surged during the BRS regime witnessed a steep fall under the present Congress government. He recalled that land in areas such as Shahbad, Chandanvelly and Seetharampur, which was valued at around Rs. 30 lakh per acre before industrial development, had appreciated to nearly Rs. 3 crore per acre after major investments by companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and Welspun.
However, he said the real estate sector took a severe blow after the Congress came to power, with land that commanded around Rs. 1 crore per acre struggling to find buyers even at Rs. 50-60 lakh per acre.
Taking aim at Revanth Reddy, Rama Rao took a dig at his frequent visits to New Delhi. He said that despite travelling to the national capital 72 times, the Chief Minister had failed to secure meaningful financial assistance or major projects for Telangana. He also stated that the Congress government had borrowed nearly Rs. 4 lakh crore over the last two-and-a-half years and had pushed the State into a crisis without delivering tangible benefits to the people.
He accused the Chief Minister of prioritising publicity over governance and criticised the government’s handling of agriculture, infrastructure and economic development.
On the occasion, the BRS working president acknowledged that the party leadership had erred during its decade in power by focusing more on governance than on the welfare and recognition of grassroots activists and Telangana agitators. “In our efforts to prove the naysayers wrong and make the State a frontrunner, we could not duly appreciate the cadre, who are the backbone of the party, and also Telangana agitators,” he said.
He assured cadres that when the BRS returns to power under K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership in 2028, the party would ensure due recognition, opportunities and respect for activists while balancing governance and public welfare. He stated that despite the party’s MLAs and MPs defecting to other parties, the cadre stood with the party, which was evident from the massive gathering of party activists.
Calling upon workers to strengthen the party at the booth level, Rama Rao urged them to intensify efforts to expose the failures of the Congress government and prepare the organisation for future electoral battles. He emphasised the need to remain cautious during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by making efforts to remove duplicate and bogus votes while ensuring that genuine voters are not affected.
