Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s directive to the Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide within three months on disqualification pleas against 10 defected BRS MLAs.

He thanked the Chief Justice of India for “ensuring that the democratic structure of this country is not eroded by malicious methods.”

Taking to X, Rama Rao took a sharp dig at Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi and dared the Congress leader to stand by his own preachings, citing the latter’s promise under Panch Nyay for stricter anti-defection laws and automatic disqualification of defectors. He hoped that neither Rahul Gandhi not his party used the Speaker’s position to make a mockery of the Constitution.

The BRS working president accused the 10 MLAs of illegitimately joining the ruling Congress and participating in official programmes openly, calling it a blatant violation of constitutional norms. “It doesn’t need much investigation,” he said, slamming the ruling party’s silence on the defections.

He lauded the BRS legal team and party cadre who stood with the party and hoped that the court’s order was a clear path to prepare for bypolls. “We have three months to work towards the bypolls in 10 constituencies. Let’s get to work, guys!” he declared.
