Khammam: A Kakatiya University (KU) student who attempted suicide following alleged harassment by senior students at a hostel on the campus died while undergoing treatment.
According to family members, the student Srividya (20) of Banigandlapadu of Yerrupalem mandal in the district was in the second year of the five-year Integrated Chemistry programme at KU. She resided in Block B of the Padmakshi Hostel.
A dispute arose between Srividya and some senior students of the same hostel over a certain issue. In the wake of the conflict, six senior students not only assaulted her but also lodged a complaint against her with the police. The police conducted an inquiry and reconciled the matter.
Following the incident, Srividya’s parents took her home. Subsequently, while staying at her maternal grandmother’s residence in Gampalagudem, Andhra Pradesh, she attempted suicide on two separate occasions on March 7 and 8 by consuming rat poison.
She was initially rushed to a nearby private hospital; however, as her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad, where she died on Monday while undergoing treatment. Her parents Krishnababu and Anjamma lodged a complaint regarding the incident with Madhira police.
