Hyderabad: The Vikarabad police on Tuesday arrested B Suresh, the prime suspect in the alleged attack on government officials reported a few days ago at Lagcherla village in Kodangal.
A team of officials including Vikarabad district collector, Prateek Jain, Kondangal Area Development Authority special officer, Venkat Reddy, and other revenue officials had gone for a public hearing for the proposed pharma city project at Kodangal.
During the hearing, Suresh allegedly asked the officials to personally visit Lagacherla village and meet the villagers to hear their grievances. When the team reached the village, an unruly mob attacked the officials and chased them away. The Vikarabad police following the incident registered four cases.
The police had arrested Patnam Narender Reddy, former MLA Kodangal and nearly 25 others in the cases so far and remanded them.
The police alleged that Suresh hatched a conspiracy and conned the officials into visiting Lagacherla, where they were attacked by the villagers. The police claimed that Suresh, who is allegedly a follower of former MLA, Narender Reddy, was absconding since the time of the attack. The police had formed special teams to trace and arrest Suresh.
On Tuesday, Suresh surrendered before the police who later produced him before a court in Kodangal. The court sent him to judicial remand. Suresh is cited as Accused number 2 in a case while Patnam Narender Reddy is cited as Accused number 1 in the attack case.
The police filed a petition before the court seeking custody of Suresh for investigation into the case. The police believe that more persons are involved in the case and Suresh was in touch with many people and hatched a conspiracy to attack and harm the government officials.
The police had also filed a petition in the court seeking custody of Patnam Narender Reddy for further investigation in the case.
