Lake police foil suicide attempt by youth in Karimnagar
Rokandla Sahit Kumar, a resident of Vavilalapalli in Karimnagar town, was working as a software engineer for a company in Hyderabad but lost his job during the lockdown.
Karimnagar: Lake Police stopped a 27-year-old debt-ridden youth from committing suicide at Lower Manair Dam on Wednesday evening.
Rokandla Sahit Kumar, a resident of Vavilalapalli in Karimnagar town, was working as a software engineer for a company in Hyderabad but lost his job during the lockdown.
Sahit Kumar, who was addicted to online betting, incurred losses of about Rs 10 lakh. He borrowed money from private money lenders to bet online. He decided to end his life when the money lenders started mounting pressure on him for repayment of the loans.
He reached LMD on Wednesday evening and went around the water body for about four hours.
The Lake Police, who found the youth moving in LMD premises, questioned him and were shocked to know that he was planning to commit suicide. They immediately informed the family members.
SI V Venkat Reddy gave counseling to the youth and handed him over to the family.
Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy appreciated constables Goutham and Naveen for rescuing the youth.
