Hyderabad: A brilliant Carnatic Vidhushi, a very humble personality and one of Hyderbad Sisters, Kumari Lalitha passed away on Tuesday.

According to information available, Kumari Lalitha (70) was unwell for the past one week and was admitted to a private hospital. It was only recently that both the sisters – Lalitha and Haripriya – had performed for 107th Jayanthi Utsavam of Shri Uppalapati Ankaiah.


Born in 1950, Lalitha who retired from Sri Tyagaraja’s College of Music and Dance, Ram Koti, was the eldest amongst eight sisters. She along with her sister Haripriya were disciples of T.G. Padmanabhan, who belonged to the famous Alattur School of music.

Winners of several awards during their school days, the Sisters went on to win several awards and apart from giving concerts in all the sabhas of the country, extensively toured the US, Canada, Singapore, UK and Dubai for performances.
