Kadapa: The ruling YSR Congress Party scored a landslide victory in the Badvel Assembly byelection on Tuesday, securing 76.25 per cent of the votes polled.

Dr Dasari Sudha, widow of Dr Venkatasubbaiah who had won in 2019 and suffered untimely death, polled 1,12,211 to defeat her nearest rival Suresh from BJP by a margin of 90,533 votes. Suresh polled 21,678 while Congress candidate Kamalamma secured 6,235 votes, both losing deposit. YSRC also got a majority in the postal ballot.

The victor Dr. Sudha said that people supported the good governance of the YSRC and gave her victory with a record majority.

YSRC seeks derecognition of TDP

New Delhi: A delegation of YSR Congress Party, the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday met President of India Ram Nath Kovind seeking derecognition of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the main Opposition party for alleged abusive language used by the latter’s leaders against Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

SRCP general secretary and party’s parliamentary party leader V Vijay Sai Reddy who led the delegation, also made a fervent appeal to the President to direct the Law ministry to formulate a law on the lines of Contempt of Court Act in the Parliament to curb malicious and deliberate acts which outrage the dignity of constitutional functionaries.

The TDP was damaging the democratic progress in the State besides using unparliamentary words in public domain showing the State in poor light, Vijai Sai Reddy said in YSRCP representation to the President.

The unruly conduct of the TDP was in gross violation of the Representation of People’s Act as the Opposition party had resorted to poison the minds of the people through an orchestrated smear campaign, unable to digest the implementation of welfare schemes to keep the poll promises made by Jagan, he said.

Vijay Sai Reddy also pointed out that the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu did not even condemn the remarks of the TDP leaders. Last week, YSRCP made a representation to the Election Commission of India seeking derecognition of the TDP while the latter also made a similar demand to the ECI seeking derecognition of YSRCP.
