Hyderabad: A major fire that raged through Anu Furniture and Electronics showroom, located opposite Chandanagar Police Station, late on Thursday night, caused panic in the area.
The blaze erupted at the popular furniture and interiors store housed in a five-storey building right on the Mumbai Highway around 11.45 pm, where a large quantity of furniture caught fire.
According to the police, firefighters rushed to the spot with four fire engines and worked for nearly three hours to bring the flames under control. Thick smoke and flames were seen billowing from the building as the fire spread through the furniture stocked inside.
With the incident occurring just a few metres away from the police station, the Chandanagar police had swiftly alerted all emergency teams to reach the spot.
“As it was in close proximity, we were able to reach the spot quickly and deployed four fire engines to completely douse the fire. No loss of life was reported. However, the value of the lost property is yet to be estimated. No complaint has been lodged yet,” said Chandanagar Inspector S Vijai.
The incident occurred along the main road, leading to heavy traffic congestion in the area. Police officials said their priority was to prevent any life loss and the raging blaze from spreading to adjacent commercial buildings. The traffic police too reached the spot immediately and initiated traffic regulation measures to ease the situation.
Officials suspect a short circuit to be the cause of the fire. Further details will be known as the investigation progresses.
