Law a promising career option for youngsters, says High Court advocate
High Court advocate Omer Farooq highlighted the growing career opportunities in law while addressing youngsters at a career guidance session in Hyderabad. He stressed the importance of reading and analytical skills and discussed opportunities in courts, law firms and specialised fields.
Hyderabad: The Masjid-e-Alamgiri in Shantinagar turned into a classroom of sorts the other day when it hosted a career guidance lecture for youngsters. As part of its monthly lecture series focusing on health and education, the Masjid Committee organised a session on career opportunities in law, delivered by High Court advocate Omer Farooq.
Farooq said, “Law commands the same respect as the medical profession. There is also immense satisfaction in securing relief for a client.” He advised students aspiring to enter the legal profession to cultivate a strong reading habit and develop the ability to comprehend and analyse information.
He also highlighted the intense competition for admission to the five-year integrated law course. Around 80,000 students appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), competing for approximately 4,000 seats in 25 national law universities and other law colleges. While there is no general seat reservation in the admission process, NALSAR University of Law has 35 seats earmarked for students from Telangana.
During the question-and-answer session, Farooq clarified that a law career was not limited to courtroom practice alone. There are several opportunities in law firms, corporate organisations and public sector undertakings, he said, adding that the field offered both job security and attractive remuneration.
He further pointed to specialised areas such as company law, trademarks, patents and legal reasoning as lucrative career options. Real estate, he noted, was another emerging field, with major companies increasingly relying on lawyers to verify property documents before finalising land transactions.
Earlier, Masjid Committee member Zaheer Ahmad and Majlis leader Mohammed Arif Rizwan welcomed the gathering.
