Hyderabad: In the aftermath of the recent heavy rains and inundation of a few colonies, LB Nagar zone of GHMC is roping in consultants for preparing a detailed report on the Storm Water Drain (SWD) network in the zone and the measures, including temporary and permanent works, to be taken up.
As part of the project, focus will be on preparing data on drainage basin, mapping of existing drains with width, depth, type and operational status. All these factors will be integrated with the upstream demands and downstream facilities to ensure free flow of water and avoid flooding.
This exercise will be specially taken up in Hayathnagar, LB Nagar and Saroornagar circles, which suffered a lot of damages, including roads, nalas and breaches to a few lakes.
The objective is to have a comprehensive SWD network to facilitate free flow of water in the nalas and more importantly to meet future requirements. The consultants will have to report all the parameters, including the current width of nalas and other specifications, reasons for obstruction of water flow and other aspects, said a senior official from GHMC.
The findings will be synchronized with the earlier studies and recommendations to ensure effective SWD network, he informed. “Plans are being made to compile the report in a month and commence the works at the earliest” said the official.
At present, there is nearly 275 km of major and minor SWD lines network in the zone and officials are making efforts to repair the damaged portions and strengthen the existing lines across the zone.
This exercise is being taken up with Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao directing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take up restoration works and measures for temporary and permanent solutions.
In addition to this, efforts are on preparing reports for protection, conservation and beautification of lakes, markets, community halls, playgrounds, mini stadiums and auditoriums in the zone.
