Hyderabad: A major water leakage occurred under the Dayanand Nagar railway track in the Malkajgiri Circle, Mirjalguda Ward, disrupting water supply to Vani Nagar and Bhavani Nagar.

The HMWSSB, in a press release on Thursday, said, “A major water leakage was identified under the Dayanand Nagar railway track in the Malkajgiri Circle, Mirjalguda Ward. The railway officials noticed water gushing through the Dayanand Nagar railway track and immediately informed HMWSSB officials, who responded and began repair work on a war footing.”

During a joint inspection, officials of HMWSSB and South Central Railway confirmed that there were no railway water pipes in the area. The leakage was detected during the morning supply, confirming that it was from the water board’s main pipeline.

Railway officials warned that if the leakage under the railway track continued, it could endanger the track structure and disrupt train operations. Water supply was halted until repairs were completed, leading to a complete disruption of supply to Vani Nagar and Bhavani Nagar, it said.

HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy immediately instructed the officials concerned to take up emergency work. Earth movers and air compressors were deployed and de-watering pumps were used at the site.

After inspecting the site, water board officials decided to replace the existing pipeline and lay a new one. Meanwhile, to avoid inconvenience, the water board restored partial water supply to about 200 connections in Vani Nagar and provided free tanker water supply to other affected areas, it said. said.
