Hyderabad: Replacing the conventional street lights in the city with LED bulbs has yielded positive results for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The step towards green energy and eco-friendly power utilities has drastically reduced the emission of carbon dioxide besides saving energy and money spent on electricity bills, GHMC officials said.
Under GHMC limits, a total of 4.92 lakh LED bulbs were installed by replacing conventional street lights, which has led to the reduction of monthly electricity bill expenditure by over Rs 6 crore.
“Before installation of LED’s, the monthly electricity consumption of street lights under GHMC limits was 20.07 Million Units (MU) that led to an expenditure of Rs 14.94 crore towards payment of monthly electricity bills. However, now the consumption has dipped to 9.96 MU and the bill is Rs 8.5 crore,” said GHMC in a press release.
The project of adopting LEDs lighting systems was taken up in association with Energy Efficiency Services Limited.
