Hyderabad: The State units of CPI and CPI (M) have welcomed Telangana government’s decision to allocate Rs.7,269 crore for providing basic amenities at all government schools under “Mana Vooru – Mana Badi” scheme.

The parties have also supported the State government’s move to introduce English as a medium of instruction in government schools and colleges across the State.

In a statement here on Thursday, CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said introduction of English medium instruction is welcome but government should ensure that students are not deprived of education in their mother tongue.

“While conducting English medium classes from first to tenth standards, the Government should also continue Telugu medium instruction,” said Chada Venkat Reddy.

Before commencement of next academic year, teachers should be trained to conduct classes in English medium. Similarly, all the vacant teaching and non-teaching posts should be filled on a war-footing, he said.

CPI (M) State Tammineni Veerabhadram said Mana Vooru – Mana Badi was good a scheme and it should not be confined to announcements. He also echoed similar sentiments on the move to introduce English medium instruction in government schools. Students who wish to pursue education in Telugu medium should be provided with the option, he said.

The CPI (M) State Secretary also demanded some amendments to GO 317, citing problems faced by many employees. The government should also hold discussions with teachers associations’ and address their issues, he said.

The CPI (M) State unit Maha Sabha would be conducted from January 22 to 25. A new State Committee of the party, besides leadership will be elected during the Maha Sabha.
