Mancherial: A leopard attacked a herd of sheep between Rapelli and Gudipet villages in Hajipur mandal on Monday night, causing panic among locals.
The leopard killed a sheep of the herd at a mango orchard between the two villages. It attacked the herd and grabbed a sheep when the shepherd was asleep around 3 am.
Locals feared that it might be a tiger which killed the sheep. They requested the officials to take steps to prevent loss of humans by diverting the wild animal into deep forests. However, officials of the forest department said that they recorded pugmarks of a leopard. They clarified that the leopard indulged in the attack.
Meanwhile, the forest officials said that a tiger was moving in the forests of Luxettipet range for the last few days. CCTV cameras would be installed to track movement of the tiger. They suspected that the tiger residing in the core of Kawal tiger reserve might have drifted towards Luxettipet.
