Sangareddy: Forest officials installed eight camera traps in Bibipet, Pochapur, and Marthanda villages of Kalher mandal on Monday following repeated leopard sightings reported by villagers. Responding to their appeals, a team led by Forest Section Officer Ch Sridhar Rao placed the cameras to monitor the movement of the big cats.
Rao said the department would continue surveillance and implement various measures to ensure the leopards are guided back into the forest areas safely. He urged residents to remain vigilant until the animals return to their natural habitat.
Meanwhile, following confusion after a wild animal strayed into a house in Bibipet late last week, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) confirmed it to be a jungle cat, not a leopard. However, pugmarks of a leopard were indeed found in another location nearby, officials confirmed.
The forest department has stepped up monitoring in the region and advised the public to report any further sightings without delay.
