Warangal: Lightning claimed three lives in three separate incidents in erstwhile Warangal district on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as G Ravindrachary alias Raju (40) of Rayaparthy village in Nadikuda mandal of Warangal Rural district, Md Ramzan (65) of Khasimdevpeta in Mulugu district, and A Kanthamma (45) of Nallabelli village in Wardhannapet mandal of Warangal Rural district.

All the three were busy making heaps of paddy grain to keep it dry from the rain when the lightning struck them. While Ravindrachary is survived by wife, a son and a daughter, Ramzan is survived by two daughters and a son, and Kanthamma is survived by husband and a son. Lightning also struck two trees — one at Mushmi village of Kothaguda mandal in Mahabubabad district, and Kuntapally crossroads in Sangem mandal of Warangal Rural district.

Meanwhile, thundershowers and hailstorm lashed several parts of erstwhile Warangal district. Paddy kept at purchasing centres got wet due to the rains. Farmers faced difficulty in keeping the grain dry as there were no sufficient tarpaulin covers at the procurement centres.

On the other hand, Warangal city and its surrounding areas witnessed hailstorm for about 40 minutes. Due to gales and strong winds, mangoes fell in the orchards in several parts of the erstwhile district.
