Adilabad: Sales of liquor went up in 2024 in the erstwhile Adilabad district when compared to that of the corresponding period.
According to the Prohibition and Excise officials, 20.75 lakh cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 26.23 lakh cartons of beer were sold in 2024. The value of the cartons was Rs 1,886 crore as against Rs 1,775 crore, the cost of liquor sold in previous year, posting a growth by 6 per cent.
As many 19,34,349 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 24,95,943 cartons of beer were sold in 2023. The cost of the liquor sold in 2023 was Rs 1,775. Mancherial district saw the highest sales of the liquor in erstwhile Adilabad district. The district stood in the top by recording sales of liquor worth Rs 713.71 crore in 2024 as against the value of sales of Rs 692 crore achieved in 2023, indicating a rise by 3 per cent.
Adilabad district saw sales of liquor worth Rs 412 crore in this year when compared to Rs 382 crore, the cost of the sales of the alcohol registered in 2023, reflecting an increase by 8 per cent. Nirmal district witnessed sales of alcohol worth Rs 475 in 2024 crore when compared to Rs 440 crore recorded in the previous year, showing an increase by 8 per cent.
Similarly, the backward Kumram Bheem Asifabad district registered sales of liquor to the tune to Rs 284.51 crore in the recently ended year as compared to 260.48 crore earned in 2023, posting the highest growth of 9 per cent.
“Ban on sales of liquor in Gadchiroli district of neighbouring Maharashtra is attributed to the rise in sales of this district. Tipplers make a beeline to wine shops in Chintalamanepalli, Koutala and Bejjur mandals to buy alcohol by crossing Pranahita river every day,” an official said.
Meanwhile, liquor worth Rs 16.08 crore was sold across the erstwhile Adilabad district on December 31. Mancherial district saw sales of alcohol valued Rs 7.30 crore, followed by Nirmal which registered the sales of liquor worth Rs 3.60 crore. Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts recorded sales of the liquor worth Rs 2.68 crore and Rs 2.50 crore, respectively.
