List of films competing at box office in 2021
A look at how big ticket movies like Prithviraj, Radhe and Maidaan are competing at the box office
Film industries across the world are recovering from the Covid lull. There are several movie releases set for this year, not just in India, but even in Hollywood.
Filmmakers, producers, actors and even the audience are waiting for films to release in theatres, unlike the past year where OTT platforms dominated the entertainment space.
Several big-budgeted films such as Prithviraj, Jersey, Maidaan, RRR, Radhe, Satyameva Jayate 2, KGF Chapter 2 and Heropanti 2 are set to release in 2021 in theatres. But it looks like there’s going to be a war at the box-office as most of these films are clashing when it comes to release dates.

Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai VS Satyameva Jayate 2
As is his tradition, Salman Khan announced that his film Radhe will release during Eid. Salman took to his Twitter account to share that he would be releasing the much-hyped movie in theatres and not OTT so that he can help theatre owners who went through heavy losses due to the pandemic. However, John Abraham had also tweeted that his movie, Satyameva Jayate 2, will release on Eid. He had tweeted, “Jis desh ki maiyya Ganga hai, wahan khoon bhi Tiranga hai! #SatyamevaJayate2 in cinemas on 12th May, EID 2021. #SMJ2EID2021 (sic).”
KGF Chapter 2 vs Heropanti 2
Makers of KGF Chapter 2 clocked in July 16 as its release date, but Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2 is also set for a release on the same day. With so many movies put on hold due to the pandemic, it was inevitable that some of them would clash at the box-office this year.
RRR VS Maidaan
While Ajay Devgn’s sports biopic Maidaan is planning for a Dussehra release on October 15, the much-awaited RRR is set for an October 13 release. The makers of Maidaan were even upset that the dates were clashing as RRR is being helmed by Bahubali filmmaker Rajamouli and it is supposed to be a huge film.
Prithviraj VS Jersey
Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey is gearing up to break the box-office on Diwali. The actor had announced in January on Twitter, “JERSEY releasing in theatres this DIWALI 5th November 2021. The triumph of the human spirit. A journey I am so very proud of. This one’s for the TEAM … (sic).” Meanwhile, Prithviraj, starring Manushi Chillar and Akshay Kumar has been scheduled for a release on November 5 too. While Jersey is a sports drama, Prithviraj is a historical action-drama.
