Hyderabad: A retired man in Hyderabad started second innings of his life at 62 by following his passion- acting. A Narasimhan who changed his screen name to Simharaaj wanted to become an actor since his childhood but was unable to do so due to family responsibilities.
Narrating his life incidents Simharaaj said that at 16 he wanted to join a film school. “My father who was sub postmaster in Chennai, explained to me that acting is never career option for poor, he pointed out towards our family’s financial condition,” Simharaaj said.
Since then, he started working in corporates in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Noida, Mumbai etc., to support his father and three siblings younger than him. Simharaaj’s mother passed away when he was 13. He worked with several corporates, media houses, real estate firms, etc for over 44 years.
Over all these years he tried to quench his thirst for acting by playing characters in office events. “I retired at executive director level in a top company in Hyderabad and I used to look forward to the annual day celebrations to showcase my acting talent,” he said. Though he was away from acting, his collection of photographs in different characters/ getups/ poses increased with every passing year.
“After I was blessed with children, I dedicated myself to their upbringing and time flew. I have two sons and a daughter, I was married when I was 26. Leaving a secured job for acting and putting my family’s future at risk was never an option. Finally I had to kill my dream,” he said.
It was in 2019 Simharaaj retired from his job and decided to act in a movie. Soon after retirement when he wanted to pursue his dream but Covid-19 stuck and he being the president of Golf View Apartment, Nanakramguda was preoccupied with social activities. “Though I knew some people from the movie industry I did not approach them for work, instead I opened a production house, gave chance to new technicians, produced a short film and quenched my thirst for acting,” said Simharaaj.
“Tollywood writer Vikranth Srinivas after seeing the movie appreciated my skills, ” he added.
The film was played at the Prasad Digital Film Lab and K Damodar Prasad, Secretary Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce presented the team momentos. The 12-minutes short film titled ‘The Moon’ is about a senior citizen who overcomes depression on his wife’s advice after she dies.
