Karimnagar: Irrigation officials on Saturday lifted the flood gates of the Lower Manair Dam to release the water into the downstream. About 29,925 cusecs of water is being discharged into the river Manair by lifting 16 flood gates.

As the reservoir is receiving huge inflows from its catchment area following incessant rainfall during the last few days, project officials have lifted gates. Collector RV Karnan lifted the gates by performing puja.

Presently, LMD is getting 29,925 cusecs of water from different sources including Moyathummeda rivulet 9,865 cusecs, Mid Manair Reservoir 17,760, CR 144.175 and Km 2,300 cusecs.

As a result, the water levels in the project reached 21.505 tmc as against its storage capacity of 24.034 tmcs. So, project officials have decided to release water to regular inflow and outflow. Officials, who initially released 8,000 cusecs of water by lifting four floodgates in the morning, have enhanced the outflow to 29,925 cusecs in the evening.

On the other hand, 3,000 cusecs of water, which had been released through Kakatiya canal up to Saturday, has stalled. Speaking to media persons after releasing the water, Collector Karnan advised the people staying in the villages located downstream of LMD to be alert in the wake of releasing water from the project.

As against its storage capacity of 24 tmc, water levels in the project reached to 21 tmc. So, project officials have released water into the downstream to regular inflow and outflow, he informed. Tahsildhars, SHOs and RDOs of Manakondur, Veenavanka and other areas located on the bank of Manair river were already alerted.

Informing that villagers were also alerted, he instructed revenue and police personnel to prevent villagers, fishermen and animal keepers from entering into the river. Fishermen should not enter into the river for fishing and round the clock teams should be alert.

Zilla Parishad CEO Priyanka, Municipal commissioner Seva Islawath, LMD Superintendent Engineer Shiva Kumar, EE Nagabushan Rao and others were present.
