Hyderabad: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Friday said the process of waiving crops loans of up to Rs 50,000 would commence from August 16 after an announcement by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on August 15.
From August 16, a total of Rs 2,006 crore would be credited into the accounts of six lakh farmers in the State, he said after participating in a meeting with the representatives of 42 banks, in Hyderabad.
“It is the responsibility of bank and government officials to coordinate and ensure that the amount is credited into farmers’ accounts,” Harish said. He asked the bank representatives to make necessary arrangements in this regard.
Once the amount is credited, the Minister said, farmers should get a phone call and SMSes in the name of the Chief Minister informing them that their crop loan was waived.
At the same time, an SMS should also be forwarded to them informing that they are eligible for a fresh loan for a new crop. Apart from these SMSes, bank officials should make it clear to farmers that their loan was waived.
Harish said problems should not be created for farmers by adjusting the amount into another account and requested bank officials to give fresh loans to farmers whose loan was waived off.
Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, who was also present in the meeting, said the State government requires the cooperation of banks, which must credit the amount into farmers’ accounts without creating any problems to them. He thanked the Chief Minister and Harish on behalf of the Agriculture Department.
