Medak: Fears of a serial killer on the prowl in Chinna Shankarampet are being raised by local residents, with the police too probing that angle after the mandal headquarters reported two similar murders within nine days.
After the charred body of a man was found on the premises of a primary health centre (PHC) in Chinna Shankarampet on October 24, another charred body was found in similar circumstances at a bus shelter near Padmanaba Swamy Gutta on Sunday morning. Interestingly, both these spots were just a stone’s throw away from the Chinna Shankarampet police station.
Adding to the mystery, the police could not find any evidence of the identity of the victims at the crime scene. Even nine days after the first murder, the police could not trace the identity of the first victim so far. However, the police were suspecting both of them were migrant workers from north India. Since there were a good number of steel industries around Chinna Shankarampet, many migrant workers from Bihar and other parts of the country work in them. Since no missing cases were filed in Chinna Shankarampet police stations, the police were finding it difficult to crack the case.
The police pressed the dog squad and Clues team into action to collect evidence. Both the victims were aged around 30 years. Police said they were beaten to death before being set on fire. The two murders created a panic among the local people.
SP Uday Kumar Reddy, DSP Venkat Reddy, and Inspector Venkatraja Goud inspected the crime scene. The SP called upon the locals to stay alert.
