Hyderabad: The ongoing lockdown in Telangana in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic has been extended till May 30. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao took the decision after consulting the State Cabinet over the phone and eliciting the views of all the Ministers on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister also cancelled the Cabinet meeting scheduled for May 20 to review the lockdown situation as the Ministers are busy taking up Covid control measures and ensuring medical services to patients in the districts.
The State government, however, permitted agriculture and allied activities, construction works, pharma and manufacturing industries and other emergency services to function as usual to ensure that the livelihood of the poor is not affected.
Coupled with the extension of lockdown, the State government also got down to serious business on Tuesday to ramp up medical infrastructure in the State, particularly oxygen supply, as decided by the Chief Minister. With self-reliance in the healthcare sector as the goal, Finance Minister T Harish Rao and Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, following Chandrashekhar Rao’s instructions, held a meeting with representatives of various companies involved in setting up oxygen plants, tankers and other facilities at BRKR Bhavan here. The representatives of the companies made a presentation on the production of medical equipment.
The Minister instructed the companies to take immediate steps to provide equipment to supply oxygen to patients in government hospitals. He also directed health officials to initiate the necessary process immediately to implement the directions of the Chief Minister on Covid-19 control measures in the State.
