New Delhi:  Opposition members protested in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday to press for Home Minister Amit Shah’s response on the police action against student protesters, disrupting proceedings soon after the House met.

Speaker Om Birla urged the members to let the Question Hour continue, but with the opposition refusing to budge, he adjourned the House proceedings till 12 noon.

On Tuesday as well, the Question Hour could not be taken up. However, a debate on the bill to amend the anti-paper leaks law, with provisions for stricter punishment of up to 10 years in jail and Rs 50 lakh fine, saw participation from both sides of the aisle.

The government introduced the bill on Monday in Lok Sabha days after nationwide student protests over the NEET fiasco culminated in the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as education minister.

The opposition has been raking up the NEET paper leak issue since the Monsoon session began on July 20. As a result, no major legislative business has been taken up so far, except for the introduction of two bills.
