Hyderabad: It’s a case of love, marriage, deceit and a Pakistani national’s illegal entry into India and stay in Hyderabad.

And, it’s a case that has left the police in a quandary even as it is making efforts to ensure all Pakistani nationals in the city left India before the union government’s deadline issued in the wake of the massacre in Pahalgam.

The Pakistani national who cheated a city woman with false identity as an Indian and married her before his true identity was revealed, has been in a detention centre here.

According to information available, Mohd Usman Ikram alias Mohd Abbas Ikram had met the woman from Hyderabad in Dubai where she went in search of a job around 17 years back. Claiming to be from Delhi, he gained her confidence and professing love, married here there.

The woman after some time returned to Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Ikram after vain efforts for a visa, illegally entered the country and reached the city telling the woman he had come on a visit visa. A few months later, the woman got suspicious and her questioning forced Ikram to reveal his true identity and nationality.

This led to acrimony between the couple and the woman started staying away from him and complained to the police. In the year 2018, Ikram was arrested by the police and on coming to know about his illegal entry and stay in India, was kept in detention centre since 2023.

Efforts to deport him also reportedly did not yield results apparently due to issues pertaining to his details in papers submitted. A case has been going on in a court here since then.

In the wake of Pahalgam massacre, the union government has issued directions that all visa holders including short term and medical visas should leave the country. However, given the status of Ikram’s illegal immigrant detainee status, the police are learnt to be working out details on how to handle the case are also learnt to have taken it to the notice of Home Ministry.
