Hyderabad: South Central Railway defeated Army XI 3-2 in the Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey tournament at the SCR Sports Complex, on Friday. The victory kept the hosts in the contention for a semifinals spot.
MG Poonacha put SCR in lead in the 9th minute of the game through a field goal. Lovepreet Singh then doubled the lead with his first goal of the day in the 12th minute. He then increased the lead to 3-0 when he converted a penalty corner in the 36th minute.
However, Army XI tried to stage a comeback. Sukhdeep Singh Randhawan found the back of the net in the 49th minute through a field goal while Rajanth scored through a penalty corner in the 55th minute to reduce the margin.
In the other match, PNB and Indian Oil played out a goalless draw.
Results: SCR 3 (MG Poonacha 1; Lovepreet Singh 2) bt Army Xl 2 (Sukhdeep Singh Randhawa 1, Rajant 1); PNB 0 drew with Indian Oil 0.
