Hyderabad: A new phrase, “Lyari in India,” has been quietly gaining traction across social media, with users sharing visuals and videos of a rugged landscape that has sparked curiosity online.

The trend comes shortly after Dhurandhar brought renewed attention to Lyari in Pakistan. While “Lyari in Pakistan” was going viral, the spotlight has now shifted to “Lyari in India.”

Despite the similar name, the Indian reference points to a natural site in Gujarat’s Kutch region. The area is characterised by a wide, dry riverbed that comes alive during the monsoon and gradually recedes, leaving behind patches of water and layered terrain. Over time, this process has shaped striking rock formations, creating a canyon-like landscape with uneven ridges and textured surfaces that draw visitors and content creators alike.

Unlike the similarly named location across the border, “Lyari” in India refers to a seasonal riverbed rather than a locality. It is not connected to Lyari in Pakistan but has gained attention due to the similarity in name and recent online searches.

Location and accessibility
The site is located in the Kutch region of Gujarat, around 70 km from Bhuj, near the Dhinodhar Hills. Though accessible by road, it remains outside mainstream tourist routes, which has kept it relatively less explored.

How were the rocks formed?
The formations are the result of long-term natural processes, with water flow, erosion and sedimentation shaping the terrain over thousands of years. The region is also known for its geological significance, with fossil-rich areas and ancient landforms that reflect the area’s prehistoric past.

Located away from crowded destinations, the site has only recently gained visibility through social media comparisons to global landmarks. As interest grows, “Lyari in India” is emerging as an offbeat landscape that continues to attract attention online.
