M C Mary Kom loses to Colombia’s Valencia

In the third and final round, Valencia got 29 points while Mary was awarded 28 points for the Colombian to storm into the semifinals.

Hyderabad: India’s Mary Kom went down fighting to Columbia’s Valencia Victoria in a split 2-3 decision in the 48kg women’s quarterfinal boxing event of the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday.

Mary Kom, who won a bronze in 2012 London Olympics, put up a brave fight but was edged out by the Colombian pugilist.


Valencia stole the show in the first round but Mary Kom came strongly in the second with a few solid punches to steal more points. However, in the third and final round, Valencia got 29 points while Mary was awarded 28 points for the Colombian to storm into the semifinals.
