Hyderabad: Responding to the poster ballot controversy, election officer of Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) polls, Krishna Mohan, on Tuesday took note of the complaint lodged by Prakash Raj.
Speaking to media persons, Krishna Mohan said, “For the first time, postal ballot polls are in place keeping in view the Covid-19 situation. As many as 125 members (artistes) in MAA association are above 60 years of age. So far, 60 senior movie artistes have sought for the postal ballot voting.
We would send postal ballot papers to all the 60 members in the evening. A nominal payment of Rs 500 should be paid towards postal ballot. We have provided the bank account details to the members.
A few senior artistes have no knowledge of payment of money. I came to know that, they approached Manchu Vishnu and subsequently a person from his Vishnu’s side, paid the entire sum to the association. Paying such huge sum by a person on behalf of artstes is against the prescribed guidelines of MAA elections. Total of Rs 28,000 paid from Vishnu was returned back. Under any circumstances, conducting polls with postal ballots will not be cancelled, “he explained.
Manchu Vishnu and Prakash Raj are the two contenders fighting the MAA polls that are scheduled to be held on October 10. Prakash Raj charged his opposition panel of influencing paper ballot voting soon after Vishnu Manchu secured signatures from senior actors and paid Rs 28,000 towards MAA membership.
