Hyderabad: Thousands of cow lovers/animal lovers participated in the ‘Maha Annakut Mahotsav’ organized by South India’s biggest Gaushala, Satyam Shivam Sundaram Gau Nivas at Umdanagar in Gaganpahad.
Annakut festival is celebrated as the new beginning and symbolizes an offering of food to God and the love and devotion that has gone into preparing it.
Pandit Harishchandraji Kulkarni performed Mahalaxmi Punchkundiya Mahayagnam and Anirudhji sang melodious bhajans on the occasion.
The Gau Shala was founded 24 years ago by 84-year-old Shri Dharamraj Ranka, the jeweler-turned-philanthropist who dedicated his life to the protection of cows. It shelters more than 6000 cows, calves and bullocks, all rescued from slaughterhouses, on 8 acres of land.
The cows here are taken care of respectfully and their milk is left to calves and cow dung is given away to farmers as biological manure at a throwaway price.
