Maha Kumbh Mela – One pilgrim from Hyderabad killed, five injured

Hyderabad: One pilgrim died and five other pilgrims, all from the city, were injured when the car in which they were travelling for Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj allegedly crashed into a truck at Balkonda in Nizamabad district in the wee hours of Thursday.
The victim was identified as V Sampath Rana (25), a resident of Kongarakalan, and the injured are P Ramesh, Chandrashekhar Chary, P Sai Vishal, V Srinivas and Rajinikanth, all from Uppuguda in Hyderabad.
As per available information, the group left the city on Wednesday in a car to visit the Maha Kumbh Mela. On reaching Chittapur in Balkonda on the National Highway – 44, the car driver in an attempt to overtake a truck ahead, rammed into it resulting in horrific accident.
While Sampath suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot, other passengers escaped with injuries in the mishap. The injured were shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment. Ramesh’s condition is said to be critical. Sampath’s body was shifted to the Armoor Government Hospital for autopsy and preservation.
Earlier this week, seven people were killed and three others all from the city were injured while returning from the Maha Kumbh Mela at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
