Mahabubabad: Police arrested five persons including an employee of an ATM cash management company for allegedly setting an ATM on fire and recovered Rs 6.70 lakh cash from them on Friday. Police also seized documents of two plots worth Rs 23 lakh from them. The arrested were identified as Jadala Nagaraj, an ATM custodian, Dasari Krishna Prakash, Gangaraboina Yashwant, Edla Rocharan and Lokaboina Saikumar of Mahabubabad district. Two other ATM custodians G Rajender and Dharavat Mahesh are still at large.
Disclosing the details at a press conference here on Friday, district SP N Koti Reddy said that the arrested were responsible for the misuse of money meant for loading the ATMs of various banks in Mahabubabad town and Kesamudram. They had defrauded the money to the tune of Rs 52.59 lakh. They had also set an ATM on fire in Mahabubabad town in an attempt to escape from the defrauding case on October 13, police said. Jadala Nagaraj, Gai Rajender and Mahesh were handling large sums of money loading into the cash vending machines and started siphoning the cash for personal use. While Nagaraj used Rs 42 lakh, Gai Rajender took Rs 9 lakh and Dharavat Mahesh used to Rs 1.59 lakh.
“As the bank officials were regularly auditing the ATM cash flow by visiting the ATMs, the accused set the ATM on fire to ensure that their role is not detected” the SP said and asked the cash management companies to recruit people after a thorough enquiry. He appreciated Mahabubabad Town Inspector J Venkata Ratnam, CCS CI A Venkateswara Rao, Town SIs, and Mahabubabad DSP P Sadaiah for arresting the accused.
