Mahabubabad: The efforts of the police machinery in Mahabubabad district have paid off in 2021 with the district recording lesser cases compared to that of 2020. “During the year (as of December 15, 2020), a total of 3,022 cases were reported in Mahabubabad district as against 3,156 cases in 2020. The crime rate has gone down by 4.24 per cent,” said SP Sharat Chandra Pawar.

Rise in crime against women:

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the SP said that harassment against women had shot up by 24 per cent while the crime against women had also gone up by 23 per cent. “During the year, 223 missing cases were reported. We could trace 201 of them. Four girls and eight women are yet to be traced ,” he added. Meanwhile, the police have booked 17 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 42 people in 2021 by confiscating ganja worth Rs 25.55 lakh. “In 2020, 13 cases were registered against 39 people under the NDPS Act, while the worth of the seized ganja was Rs 15.18 lakhs,” he added.
